A 78-year-old man was rescued with burns after a fire broke out in his apartment in Serres, northern Greece.
The man was at risk of being trapped when his 23-year-old grandson, who noticed the fire, managed to pull him from the apartment.
Twelve firefighters with five fire engines were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
The man was taken by ambulance to Serres General Hospital, where he is being treated and is not in life-threatening condition, officials said.
The apartment was completely destroyed. Fire service officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
