A 65-year-old man was found dead after a fire destroyed a single-family home in the central Greek city of Volos early Sunday.

The blaze broke out shortly before 1 a.m. in a residential neighborhood near the city center.

Firefighters discovered the man’s body inside the house after bringing the fire under control. According to initial reports, the victim lived alone.

Fourteen firefighters, assisted by four fire engines, police officers and emergency medical personnel, responded to the scene.

The body will undergo a forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death, including whether it resulted from the fire, smoke inhalation or another factor.
