The party alleged that the development reflected a broader pattern of actions aimed at opposition politicians, activists, journalists, labour leaders and citizens exercising their constitutional rights.
The African Action Congress (AAC) and the leadership of the Take It Back Movement (TIB) have accused the Nigerian government of using state institutions to persecute opposition voices, particularly Omoyele Sowore.
The opposition party and TIB warned that no amount of “judicial manipulation, political harassment, or state intimidation” would prevent the party from pursuing power in the 2027 elections.
The declaration was contained in a communiqué adopted unanimously on June 18, 2026, following an emergency meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), its candidates at various levels, and leaders of the Take It Back Movement.
The meeting was convened to deliberate on the arrest order issued against the party’s presidential candidate, Sowore, and what the AAC described as its implications for democracy, civil liberties and the 2027 electoral process.
