Police in eastern Attica have arrested two brothers accused of attacking Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) employees in Paiania, after allegedly mistaking them for fraudsters.
According to police, the two workers were initially verbally assaulted by the brothers. The situation then escalated, with one of the brothers allegedly striking an employee with the handle of a firearm.
A subsequent search of the suspects’ home and business premises in Paiania led to the discovery and seizure of a machine gun, a pistol, two air guns and around 200 metal cartridges.
During questioning, the brothers reportedly claimed they believed the employees were attempting to extort money from them, citing previous experiences with impostors.
They now face charges including violations of weapons legislation, threats and dangerous bodily harm.
