The incident involved two Grade 10 pupils during what was described as a “serious and distressing incident” at the school.

Police have opened a murder investigation following the tragic death of a Grade 10 pupil at Bellville South High School, allegedly resulting from an assault by another pupil inside a classroom.

According to the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), the incident involved two Grade 10 pupils during what it described as a “serious and distressing incident” at the school.

The pupils sustained a fatal head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment, but died on Thursday evening (June 11).

WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond expressed condolences to the affected family and school community.
