Police have opened a murder investigation after a Grade 10 learner at Bellville South High School died following an alleged assault inside a classroom involving another learner, Cape Times reported.
According to the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), the incident involved two Grade 10 learners during what it described as a “serious and distressing incident” at the school.
The learner sustained a fatal head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment, but died on Thursday evening, June 11.
WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond expressed condolences to the affected family and school community.
