Greek universities slipped in this year’s QS World University Rankings 2027, even as three institutions made their debut in the global survey for the first time.
The QS rankings, which evaluate more than 1,500 institutions across 106 countries, showed all seven previously ranked Greek universities falling in the standings compared to last year. Three newcomers – Democritus University of Thrace and the universities of the Aegean and Thessaly – entered in the 1,201-1,400 range, bringing Greece’s total to 10 universities in the top 1,500.
The National Technical University of Athens remains within the top 400 globally. The University of Athens dropped out of the top 400, while Aristotle University of Thessaloniki fell to 502nd overall.
Greek institutions ranked outside the top 800 for international faculty, and none improved on the international research network indicator.
The QS rankings evaluate universities using indicators such as academic reputation, research impact, and employment outcomes.
