Peet Viljoen in the dock on Thursday, in the same clothes in which he was arrested at the OR Tambo Airport on Tuesday night.

From an ICE detention camp in the United States to Kgosi Mampuru Prison in Pretoria - this is the fate of disgraced lawyer Peet Viljoen, at least for now, after he appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday.

He was arrested on Tuesday, June 16, shortly after landing at OR Tambo International Airport on at least 400 charges ranging from fraud to theft.

After spending two nights at the Sunnyside police station in Pretoria, Viljoen appeared in court. His advocate, Johan van Wyk, said he is not yet ready to launch a formal bail application and needed more time to consult with Viljoen.

Prosecutor Willem van Zyl also said he needed more time as he plans on opposing bail. It is expected that Van Zyl will pull out all the stops next Friday (June 26) when the formal bail application will be lodged.
