Peet Viljoen was arrested by police just moments after landing at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday. The police confirmed his arrest.
Viljoen faces charges including fraud, theft, forgery, uttering, and violating the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 2004.
According to the national spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Colonel Katlego Mogale, the arrest stems from an investigation into fraudulent property sales linked to the Johannesburg Property Company.
Allegations suggest that several properties owned by the company were unlawfully sold to unsuspecting buyers without any payment being received, leading to significant financial loss for the City of Johannesburg.
