Disgraced lawyer, Peet Viljoen, appearing in court. His wife, Mel, listens as he speaks to his lawyer.
Peet Viljoen is appearing in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday following his arrest at the OR Tambo International Airport earlier this week.
Viljoen, 57, was arrested on allegations of fraud, theft, forgery, uttering, and contravention of Section 4 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 2004 (Act No. 12 of 2004).
According to the national spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Colonel Katlego Mogale, Viljoen's arrest follows an extensive investigation into allegations relating to the fraudulent sale of properties belonging to the Johannesburg Property Company (JPC), an entity wholly owned by the City of Johannesburg.
