Gauteng police arrested four suspects and seized eight AK-47 rifles and seven empty magazines during an operation in Magaliesburg on Tuesday, June 16.

The arrests were made after members of SAPS Magaliesburg spotted suspicious activity while patrolling along the R24 road.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, officers noticed a Volvo truck with Namibian registration plates parked on the side of the road, with a Mazda sedan stationed behind it.

"It is reported that the members were patrolling on the R24 road when they noticed a Volvo truck with a Namibian registration number parked on the side of the road and a Mazda sedan behind it," said Nevhuhulwi.

Police then observed two men carrying a mielie bag from the truck and placing it inside the boot of the Mazda, prompting officers to approach and search the vehicles.
