The victim was nine years old at the time of the crime.
A Mpumalanga man has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the KwaMhlanga Regional Court for the rape of his nine-year-old great-grandchild.
The incident took place in August 2020 at their home in Kwa Mhlanga.
The 70-year-old man’s identity is being withheld to protect the victim from secondary victimisation.
The court heard on August 10, 2020, that the grandfather dropped the child off at her paternal family’s home while accompanying his wife to a ceremony in KwaVezubuhle. Late that evening, the grandfather returned to collect the child and proceeded to his home.
