A man who raped a seven-year-old girl and bribed her sister to act as a lookout has had his appeal against a life sentence rejected by the High Court.
A child rapist, who bribed his young victim's sister to act as a lookout during his heinous acts, will continue to serve his life sentence after his appeal against conviction was rejected.
The man identified as the perpetrator was the boyfriend of the girl’s mother and was considered a father figure.
In the High Court of Mpumalanga Division, Mbombela main seat, Acting Judge President Takalani Vincent Ratshibvumo lamented the rape, describing the man - who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child victim - and the rapist’s conduct as reprehensible, “which in no doubt called for a strong sentence”.
The girl, named FD in court proceedings, was seven years old at the time of the incident, which occurred in February 2018 at the girl’s family home.
