GOOD councillor Marius van Stade (pictured) has tabled a motion seeking the appointment of an independent investigator to examine allegations made by former deputy mayor Mynhard Slabbert regarding municipal property transactions dating back to 2018.

A motion calling for an independent investigation into allegations surrounding municipal property transactions in Stellenbosch has been submitted to the Office of the Speaker and the Stellenbosch Municipal Council by the GOOD Party.

Tabled by GOOD councillor Marius van Stade, the motion seeks the appointment of an independent investigator to examine allegations made by former deputy mayor Mynhard Slabbert regarding municipal property transactions entered into since 2018.

The allegations raise concerns about possible non-compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), the Municipal Systems Act and other legislation governing the sale, disposal and leasing of municipal property.

The motion also requests that council be furnished with a report on the investigation announced by Western Cape MEC of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell.
