RULAAC said both men were shot during the incident. While Anyanwu survived after receiving initial treatment, Maduakolam was reportedly taken away by the operatives and has not been seen since.
The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has called on the Commissioner of Police in Imo State to urgently intervene in the case of a man allegedly shot by operatives of the disbanded Tiger Base unit, warning that his deteriorating health and growing security concerns could lead to tragedy if immediate action is not taken.
In a statement issued on Monday, RULAAC's Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, said Mr. Kenneth Anyanwu, a resident of Umuonyeka Community in Ihitteaforukwu, Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area, has been battling severe health complications since he was struck by police gunfire during an operation that reportedly targeted another individual.
According to the group, Anyanwu was not the intended target of the operation but became a victim when operatives opened fire during an attempt to arrest one Mr. Uchechukwu Maduakolam, popularly known as Ebube.
