In a statement issued by its Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, RULAAC described the officer’s threat as “deeply troubling, unacceptable, and incompatible with the responsibilities of a law enforcement officer in a democratic society.”
The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has condemned the open threat made by a Nigerian police officer, ASP Newton Isokpehi, who, in a viral video on social media, threatened to “shoot dead” anyone who records him while on duty.
In a statement issued by its Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, RULAAC described the officer’s threat as “deeply troubling, unacceptable, and incompatible with the responsibilities of a law enforcement officer in a democratic society.”
SaharaReporters had reported how the officer sparked outrage after openly threatening to shoot not only anyone who records him while on duty, but also other innocent passengers inside the commercial bus in which the person filming him was seated.
Isokpehi, who spoke in a viral video seen by SaharaReporters, angrily warned citizens against filming police officers during operations, insisting that anybody caught recording him would face deadly consequences.
