FINANCE Minister Davendranath Tancoo has announced that provisions will be made in the national budget 2027 to meet obligations arising from ongoing negotiations with unions representing workers, including nurses and teachers. He made the announcement in the Parliament during the debate on a motion to adopt the report of the Standing Finance Committee yesterday.Tancoo outlined the reasons for Government’s request for an additional $2.9 billion in supplementary funding, saying the money was needed to address urgent and critical recurrent and capital expenditure up to September 30, 2026.He said relief would come for workers when the next budget is presented later this year.“Mr Speaker I am advised that some unions today are anxious to see if there is supplementation for their negotiations. I am reliably informed that tabulation and quantification required should be completed over the next few weeks and perhaps months, and therefore appropriate provisions will be made in the budget fiscal 2027 to meet all obligations settled between now and budget 2027,” he said.Tancoo continued: “So I want to tell nurses, teachers, and whoever else that are currently at the bargaining table or awaiting finalisation, that relief is coming. Relief is coming, the documentation is being provided now and in fiscal 2027 the relevant appropriations will be made.”
