Fear and panic have gripped the management of Coal City University (CCU), Enugu State, as the private institution on Monday, imposed a draconian gag order on its student population, strictly forbidding them from leaking the internal rot of the institution to outsiders or investigative journalists.
SaharaReporters exclusively gathered that the desperate damage-control measure was handed down by the Dean of Student Affairs, Ifeanyichukwu Arthur Onyiah.
This follows the outrage that greeted SaharaReporters' report detailing how a 23-year-old female undergraduate was publicly lynched by school officials and subsequently suspended for a year for reading in her room during an active lecturers' strike.
Insider sources within the university revealed that following the publication, the Chancellor of the private institution, Chinedu Ani, grew frantic and summoned all students to a mandatory emergency assembly on Monday morning for a special address.
"Both students and staff abandoned their schedules and were on the ground to hear what the Chancellor would say regarding the public brutalisation of Miss Divine and the strike over unpaid salaries," an internal source narrated to SaharaReporters.
