The civil society organisation argued that the management's sudden turnaround was merely an exercise in corporate damage control.
The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has condemned the management of the Coal City University (CCU), Enugu State, for trampling on basic principles of justice, due process, and fair hearing.
In a scathing institutional assessment released on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the Executive Director of RULAAC, Okechukwu Nwanguma, stated that the university’s recent decision to suspend an abusive staff member and announce a review of its actions is a face-saving gimmick forced by public pressure, rather than genuine moral introspection.
Nwanguma questioned the rationale behind the university’s initial decision to rush to judgement by suspending the victim of a violent assault alongside the whistleblowers without conducting any prior investigation, describing the administrative style as a complete disregard for the rule of law.
"While this admission is welcome, it raises a troubling question: Why were disciplinary sanctions imposed in the first place without a thorough investigation and fair hearing?" Nwanguma queried.
