A former deputy head of a local community in the Sumy region has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for high treason.

The Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

Prosecutors proved in court that the defendant had been recruited by Russian intelligence services even before the start of the full-scale invasion.

In the early days of the war, he staged his own "abduction" by occupying forces and traveled to Russia to meet with an FSB handler. After receiving instructions, he returned to Ukraine and convinced locals of his pro-Ukrainian stance, explaining his absence by claiming he had been held in enemy captivity.
