Two former members of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine from Crimea, who defected to the enemy, will stand trial for treason. They face up to 15 years in prison.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
“The Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic has filed indictments with the court against two former employees of the Crimean Territorial Command of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine who defected to the enemy [Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason]. They face up to 15 years in prison,” the statement reads.
It is noted that one of the defendants previously served as the deputy commander of a military unit responsible for educational work.
After the occupation of the peninsula, he voluntarily enlisted in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, where he was appointed “deputy chief of the Main Directorate for Personnel Affairs of the Main Directorate of the Russian Guard for the Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol.”
