Chief Samuel Mashaba of the Gauteng Traffic Police has been placed on precautionary suspension with immediate effect pending a formal disciplinary process after admissions made during testimony before the Madlanga Commission.

The Gauteng Provincial Government has placed Gauteng Traffic Police Chief Inspector Samuel Mashaba on precautionary suspension pending the outcome of a formal disciplinary process.

The Office of the Premier said the decision follows testimony given by Mashaba before the Madlanga Commission, during which he made admissions relating to conduct that may constitute serious breaches of the Public Service Code of Conduct, departmental policies and laws governing public servants.

According to the provincial government, the admissions include allegations involving the misuse of official powers entrusted to him as a law enforcement officer, the misuse of departmental tools of trade and state resources, and the acceptance of compensation from a member of the public in circumstances that raise concerns about conflicts of interest and ethical conduct.

The Gauteng Provincial Government said it takes the allegations seriously and remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, accountability and professionalism across its institutions.
