The Theni District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has taken up 834 cases out of 990 and settled a whopping sum of ₹5.15 crore to the litigants.According to a press release from the DLSA member secretary and sub-judge M. Parameswari, the Lok Adalat was presided over by Principal District Judge A. Saravana Kumar and other judicial officers across the district. There were 900 criminal cases, 15 cheque bounce cases, 350 bank related litigations, 60 motor vehicle accident claims, five family issues and 60 civil matters.After careful perusal, judicial officers, in consultation with advocates, took up 834 before the Lok Adalat. Likewise, the Adalat took up 138 pre-litigation cases out of 350 and through the negotiations, the banks received ₹2.15 crore as one-time settlement claim, the officials said.On December 16, 2024, a motorist identified as Murugan died in a road accident and the legal heirs had filed a suit claiming compensation. The case, which was referred to the Lok Adalat, settled at ₹65 lakh for the family by the National Insurance Company Limited, the press release said and added that they had settled a total of 972 cases at ₹7.33 crore.In Dindigul district, Principal District Judge Padmanabhan presided over the Lok Adalat on Saturday. According to a press release, a cheque for ₹31 lakh was handed over to a woman Muthulakshmi, whose husband Tirupathi, 38, of Virudhunagar died in a road accident in 2025 in J. Oothupatti in Dindigul district in the presence of her advocate Arockia Aruldoss.The Dindigul District Legal Services Authority had taken up 4025 cases in 15 sessions and the litigants were benefited through the Lok Adalat, the officials said.
