MANILA, Philippines—Amid growing concerns over El Niño-driven water shortages, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has mobilized all units to intensify conservation measures and prepare assistance for affected communities.

In a statement on Sunday, PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. issued the order following a water conservation advisory from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), as several areas continue to feel the effects of El Niño.

On Friday, the DENR urged a unified effort to conserve water following forecasts of emerging El Niño conditions that could result in an extended dry period.
