Proteas Women's all-rounder Nadine de Klerk.
Proteas Women’s all-rounder Nadine de Klerk is as perplexed as everyone else about her new batting role at the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup.
There had been plenty of conjecture leading up to the Proteas’ opening game against Australia about the troubled No. 3 position, which eventually went to fellow all-rounder Annerie Dercksen instead of the experienced Tazmin Brits or Dané van Niekerk, who both failed to make the starting XI for the Old Trafford clash.
The tactic was unsuccessful, with Dercksen being clean bowled by Kim Garth for four as the Proteas slumped to 7/2 within the first two overs.
But then, coach Mandla Mashimbyi sprang another surprise by promoting De Klerk to the crucial No. 4 position.
