Chelsea wants roughly €70 million for Marc Cucurella. Atletico Madrid would prefer to pay closer to €50 million. That €20 million gap is, to put it mildly, a problem.
The Spanish left-back has emerged as Atletico’s top defensive target for the summer 2026 transfer window, but Chelsea has shown zero interest in offering a discount. The club’s stance is straightforward: meet the asking price or look elsewhere.
The numbers behind the standoff
Chelsea paid €65 million to sign Cucurella from Brighton back in August 2022. Asking for €70 million now means the club isn’t just trying to recoup its investment. It wants a profit.
Atletico’s counter-position sits around €50 million, or roughly £43 million. That’s a meaningful offer by any standard, but it falls about £18 million short of Chelsea’s expectations.
