The final paperwork still needs to be completed but the deal is expected to be finalised early next week.The Athletic reported on June 1, however, that multiple clubs had been in contact with Cucurella’s representatives and sources briefed on the matter, who spoke under condition of anonymity to protect relationships, said the full-back was willing to leave the west London club.Atletico Madrid and Barcelona’s sporting directors had made contact with his camp, but Diego Simeone’s side were considered more likely to close a deal as they do not need to wait on sales to advance their interest whereas the Catalan side would. Real Madrid and inbound Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca have also shown interest in the Spain international.The 27-year-old only signed a new Chelsea deal last summer, which has another three years remaining.Madrid and Barcelona have already butted heads this transfer window, with the capital club saying they had seen an offer to sign Julian Alvarez rejected after the Catalans had opened talks with Atletico Madrid. Bernardo Silva, who had long-been admired by Barcelona, is close to joining Madrid. Barcelona, though, haveCucurella made 50 appearances for Chelsea in the 2025-26 season, his third at the club.
