Tourism Minister S. Rajesh Kumar on Saturday directed the officials of the Tourism, Water Resources and the Panchayat Raj Departments to conduct a feasibility study, with the help of technical experts, for introducing ropeway tourism attraction across Paraliyar River in Aruvikkarai village near Thiruvattar in Kanniyakumari district.After inspecting different sites in the district where the Tourism Department is carrying out development works at an estimated cost of ₹11.20 crore, the Minister told the officials to prepare the report for implementation.During the inspection at Mathur aqueduct, Mr. Rajesh Kumar wanted the officials to upgrade the children’s park underneath the aqueduct and ensure clean toilets and potable drinking water facilities for the tourists. He also inspected the ₹3.5-crore eco park being constructed near the riverbank.The Minister further inspected the multipurpose complex, including a dress-changing room, being constructed at a cost of ₹4.30 crore at Thirparappu falls, and a boat jetty, resting area and parking facility at Chittar dam.He suggested to the officials modernisation of the rooms being constructed for tourists and measures to allow bathing at the twin falls (Irattai Aruvi). “We should make the district the most preferred destination for tourism,” he said.He was accompanied by Kanniyakumari District Collector M.
