The largest portion of ₹19 crore out of ₹48 crore for the damsite tourism infrastructure project, in the 2026-27 Budget announcement, has been earmarked for Thirumoorthy Dam in Tiruppur district..The rest of the allotment is for infrastructure development of Pechiparai Dam (₹ 13 crore) in Kanniyakumari district, KRP Dam (₹9 crore) in Krishnagiri district, and Kodiveri Dam (₹7 crore) in Erode district.The Thirumoorthy Dam located at the foot of Thirumoorthy hills, along with the Panchalinga Falls and Amanalingeswarar Temple in the vicinity, attracts visitors in large numbers, particularly during weekends and holidays.According to the Tourism Department, a park will be developed on an area of 20 acres at the Thirumoorthy Dam site. The Tiruppur district administration is also pursuing a proposal for resumption of boating at the dam at an expenditure of ₹81.5 lakh.Beautification of the dam site with substantial allocation is to be carried out for the first time after its construction six decades ago, District Tourism Officer of Tiruppur Aravindkumar said.Several inspections were carried out at the dam site for formulation of the beautification plan. The District In-Charge Minister K.G.Arunraj and the Collector Manish Narnaware visited the site last month.The infrastructure development, officials said, will pave way for much higher tourist footfall, and foster the local economy benefitting the tribal communities living in the hills.
