The British-era Kumaranpatty check dam in Harur block in Dharmapuri will be revived at a cost of ₹21.50 crore, according to district Collector V. Saravanan. A proposal to that effect has been sent to the State government.On Monday (July 13, 2026) the Collector inspected Kumaranpatty check dam, which is situated downstream of Eachampadi check dam.The Kumaranpatty check dam and its canal, that runs a length of 4.5 km, used to have a watershed area of 118.50 acres.Mampadi, Kumaranpatty and Anumantheertham villages of Harur block were benefiting from the check dam. It was also the water source for over 180 wells and 550 borewells and over 5,500 people of these three villages.Inspecting the sites of the canal and the check dam, the Collector instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) officials to review the inflow and the outflow into the dam and its structural safety, among other parameters.
