A court in northern Greece has convicted the owner of a Halkidiki amusement park and three others over the 2024 death of a 19-year-old on a fairground ride prosecutors said was dangerously defective and poorly maintained.

The 60-year-old owner was convicted Saturday of intentional homicide with probable intent, along with attempted homicide charges, in the August 2024 incident involving the “Crazy Dance” ride. His wife and co-owner was found guilty of complicity, while a ride operator and a certifying engineer were also convicted on related charges.

The ruling was issued in Giannitsa after a months-long trial.

During proceedings, the prosecutor told the court the ride was “absolutely unsuitable and dangerous,” describing it as a homemade structure built without specifications or safety standards and heavily corroded.

She said the deterioration made failure inevitable and that the ride should have been replaced rather than used. She also cited lack of maintenance, inadequate operator training and insufficient safety measures.
