Undercover police using live drone footage have arrested a parking tout on the southern island of Crete for allegedly illegally directing motorists visiting a popular swimming beach to the private parking lot where he worked.

A police statement Friday said the 21-year-old suspect was arrested following complaints over similar practices by parking attendants at the beach and faced charges of solicitation of customers and obstructing traffic.

The statement said the Greek man was found wearing a high-visibility vest standing in the middle of a road by the beach, blocking traffic, preventing drivers from continuing to parking lots run by competitors and forcibly directing them into the one where he worked.

Local media said the charge for using that parking lot serving the highly popular Elafonissi beach, famous for its pink coral sand, was €5.
