MILAN — Sabine Marcelis, the Dutch-New Zealander designer whose futuristic vision has been embraced by design houses like Vitra and USM and conglomerates like Ikea, will unveil her first exhibition design project with luxury jeweler Cartier.
Named simply “Cartier,” the exhibition features over 300 precious jewels and tracing the French house’s ascent on a global stage, will open Friday at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia.
The exhibition highlights Cartier’s signature style and elite clientele, including Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly and Princess Margaret.
The centerpiece of the show is a display of more than 20 tiaras, including the Scroll tiara from 1902, worn by Winston Churchill’s wife Clementine Churchill and Rihanna. It also showcases the Sun tiara from 1907 centered on a 32-carat intense yellow diamond.
It also marks Marcelis’ first exhibition design project, who worked in collaboration with her partner, French architect Paul Cournet and his multidisciplinary practice Cloud.
