Paris, France - July 8, 2014: Chanel shop in place Vendome in Paris. Chanel is a fashion house founded in 1909 specialized in haute couture and luxury goods.gettyChanel has tapped Marie-Laure Cérède, formerly of Cartier and Harry Winston to lead its jewelry design studio. The move signals a renewal of the French superbrand’s jewelry business, which has been riding the wave of Blazymania since Creative Director Matthieu Blazy took over in September 2025.During her time at Cartier, Cérède oversaw the hit Clash line, and helped evolved the iconic Love and Juste un Clou lines into some of the most recognisable motifs in luxury. She will take over fine and high jewelry design at Chanel’s Paris studio in October 2026; her predecessor, Patrice Legéreau, died in November 2024 and design has been led by the in-house studio team since. The couture giant is currently riding high, with year-end sales that had risen by 2% to €19.3 billion, after Blazy entered the world of Chanel last year. He is credited with injecting fresh creativity into the collections, targeting a younger consumer who may previously not have identified strongly enough with the brand’s fashion to engage, outside of perennial classics like the 2.55 quilted handbag. In hiring Cérède, perhaps Chanel is hoping for a similar effect in a different market.10th March 1931: Portrait of French fashion designer Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel (1883 - 1971) posing in her suite at the Hotel Pierre during her first visit to New York City. In an industry in which creative directors – even on Place Vendôme – are far less visible than their high fashion counterparts, renewal at the top of the design studio is a canny move. By attracting design talent from the world’s leading jewelry house, Chanel is hoping to replicate the gleam Cartier has brought to the balance sheet of its owner, Richemont, as the group’s strongest brand.MORE FOR YOUJewelry is a relatively recent development in the house’s storied history. Chanel fine jewelry debuted in 1993, with high jewelry following in 2001. Collections typically include motifs that were dear to Coco Chanel herself, including her favorite Camelia flowers, stars and comets referencing her interest in astrology, and No. 5, her lucky number. The best-selling Coco Crush collection, which launched in 2015, draws on the famous quilted 2.55 handbags.
