Agunloye is facing a seven-count charge filed by the Federal Government over the award of the $6billion Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project in May 2003 under a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) arrangement.

The ongoing trial of former Minister of Power and Steel, Dr Olu Agunloye, over the controversial Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project took a new turn on Wednesday as the defence challenged the credibility of key documents tendered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Proceedings resumed before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, where the defence continued its cross-examination of the fifth prosecution witness, Barrister John Illya Iyakwari, an Assistant Director (Legal) in the Federal Ministry of Power.

Agunloye is facing a seven-count charge filed by the Federal Government over the award of the $6billion Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project in May 2003 under a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) arrangement.

The prosecution alleges that the former minister awarded the contract without presidential approval, budgetary appropriation, or financial backing, and also accuses him of receiving a N5 million bribe in 2019.
