The Ranni police have arrested five persons in connection with the alleged vigilante assault of a man who was accused of secretly watching women inside their homes.The arrested have been identified as M.K. Sasi, Roji M. Raju, Jishnu P. Mohan and M.S. Mahesh, all natives of Chempanmukham, and T.V. Rejin of Thompikkandam.According to the police, the accused allegedly assaulted Varghese Mathew, a native of Pullampally, on the night of June 7 after accusing him of voyeurism. He was allegedly stripped, tied with ropes around his hands, legs and neck, and subjected to a severe assault. Videos purportedly showing the attack were later circulated widely on social media.The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital with multiple injuries, including a fracture to his left arm.The five accused were produced before the Adoor court and remanded in judicial custody.Meanwhile, the Ranni police have also registered a separate case against Mr. Mathew based on allegations made against him by local residents.
