Three fans have been arrested during a Panathinaikos-Olympiakos basketball match in Athens for drugs possession and attempting to disrupt the game, police said Thursday.
A police statement said one of the three was taken into custody Wednesday inside the arena in Maroussi, northern Athens, after being caught allegedly shining a laser pointer at players and referees on the court. The 20-year-old faces charges of breaching weapons laws.
The other two suspects didn’t even make it to their seats, as they were stopped outside the arena and found to be carrying small quantities of drugs, according to the statement.
Panathinaikos won the encounter, and the two clubs will meet again Saturday for the final in a set of five games to determine this season’s Greek Basketball League champion.
