Debt restructuring through Greece’s out-of-court settlement mechanism continued the upward trend in May, according to the Ministry of National Economy and Finance.A total of 2,205 new debt settlement agreements were concluded, covering initial liabilities of 564 million euros, marking a 65% increase compared with May 2025. At the same time, 569 cases were successfully completed after meeting all eligibility criteria. The ministry also reported a significant monthly increase in both new applications and final submissions, which reached 5,967 and 3,128 respectively.According to the ministry, the notable rise is primarily attributable to the new legislative framework and the expansion of eligibility criteria for participation in the out-of-court mechanism. The changes enable a larger number of debtors to restructure their obligations and safeguard their assets.Since the launch of the platform, a total of 60,395 debt settlement agreements have been successfully completed, corresponding to initial liabilities of 18.65 billion euros.“The development demonstrates that citizens show increased trust in the mechanism,” the ministry said.
