Postponing the publication of the names of large debtors until February 2027 does not change the real picture of overdue debts to the state. This is because the approximately 30,000 debtors with debts of over €150,000 are those who have not been included in the arrangements, leaving the majority of the debts outside the collection process.

Rather, the arrangements mainly concern taxpayers and businesses with smaller and more manageable debts, a fact confirmed by the data of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).

So, the postponement of the publication of the names, according to the decision signed by the deputy ministers of Finance and Labor, Dimitris Markopoulos and Anna Efthymiou, is more of a procedural nature, as the question is which large debtors will take advantage of the new 72-installment arrangement that is currently in effect.

To date, however, experience shows that the response comes almost exclusively from those with small and medium debts.

AADE data shows that the largest concentration of settled debts is found in the range from €500 to €10,000, where the percentage reaches 15.5%. Participation in the category of debts from €2,000 to €3,000 is particularly high, where the percentage of settlements amounts to 18.1%, confirming that those with relatively manageable debts respond more easily to settlement opportunities.
