State overdue arrears remain at particularly high levels, according to the latest available data from the State General Accounting Office, with hospitals being the most affected.
At the end of April the debts of the general government entities to state suppliers as well as the pending tax refunds amounted to €3.65 billion, reduced by just €73 million compared to March.
The state’s inability to pay suppliers on time creates liquidity problems in the market, while post-bailout program commitments to zero out overdue debts remain in the periodic reports issued by the European institutions and the International Monetary Fund.
