MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon or “habagat” is expected to weaken even further over the long weekend for Independence Day, June 12, indicating possible fairer weather, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Habagat refers to warm, moist winds originating from the southwest, which bring rains to the western portion of the Philippines.

“Over the long weekend, tomorrow, habagat will continue to weaken and will only affect the western portion of Northern Luzon, where cloudy skies are expected, Pagasa weather specialist Leanne Loreto said

“By Saturday until Monday, fair weather is expected,” she added.
