Demand from tourists and business travellers remains strong, but profitability compares poorly with local property prices.
At first glance, Bratislava looks like an attractive market for Airbnb hosts.
An average flat listed on Airbnb earned its owner €21,000 last year, or around €1,750 in monthly revenue, with an occupancy rate of 71 percent, according to data from Airbtics.
However, experts note that Bratislava is one of the cities in Eastern Europe with the lowest revenues from short-term rentals, despite attracting both leisure and business travellers, according to Trend magazine.
Much of the money earned by hosts never reaches their pockets. They have to pay Airbnb fees, local accommodation tax, cleaning and maintenance costs, and a 23 percent tax paid to the state because Airbnb invoices hosts from abroad.
