JEDDAH/ALKHOBAR: Football fans across Saudi Arabia are gearing up for the start of the World Cup which kicks off on Thursday.
With the Saudi side set to get their campaign underway against Uruguay on June 15, fans of the beautiful game spoke to Arab News about their plans for the 39-day sporting extravaganza.
Sports journalist Mohammed Hussein Al-Hamed said he felt the excitement was nearing fever pitch.
“We are not talking about just another football tournament,” he said. “This is the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an event awaited by the entire planet.”
With the opening match between co-hosts Mexico and South Africa just a day away, Al-Hamed said he planned to watch as many games as possible and especially those featuring his favorite player.
