AUSTIN, Texas — Saudi Arabia opened its training session to supporters in Austin as the Green Falcons continued preparations for their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener against Uruguay.The event formed part of a community engagement initiative organized by the Saudi national team, allowing local residents and football fans to watch training and meet several players ahead of the tournament.The session was held at Q2 Stadium under the supervision of head coach Georgios Donis.Players were divided into two groups, with those who started in the recent friendly against Senegal undertaking recovery exercises in the gym and on the pitch. The remaining players completed a session that included warm-up drills, possession exercises and training games involving a single goalkeeper.The open training session was organized as part of FIFA's initiative encouraging participating teams to engage with local communities during the World Cup.Following training, the Saudi delegation held a fan event featuring captain Salem Al-Dawsari, Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat, Nawaf Al-Aqidi, Saleh Al-Shehri and Ali Majrashi.Supporters received commemorative gifts featuring player photographs and autographs, while fans had the opportunity to interact directly with members of the squad.Addressing those in attendance, Donis thanked supporters for their presence and welcomed the opportunity to connect with the Austin community."We invite you to enjoy this experience with us," Donis said. "We are happy to be part of this city during our preparations and we thank you for your support."Al-Dawsari also expressed his appreciation to the fans gathered at the stadium."We are happy to be in Austin and thank you for your support and attendance," the Saudi captain said. Playing in the World Cup is special and we hope you enjoy being part of it."Around 100 supporters attended the open session, with the majority coming from the local Austin community and supporters of Austin FC. A number of Saudi students studying in the United States were also present.Saudi Arabia will continue its preparations in Austin before beginning its World Cup campaign against Uruguay as Donis' side looks to make a strong start in Group H.
