The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has said it is closely monitoring developments in Belfast, Northern Ireland, following reports of unrest and isolated incidents that have affected parts of the community.
It also urged Nigerians living in the area to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and avoid actions that could worsen tensions.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, said the commission was concerned about the situation and was engaging relevant stakeholders to safeguard the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora.
According to her, periods of tension within communities should not be allowed to create divisions among residents.
“Whenever communities experience moments of tension, it is important that we do not allow isolated incidents to divide us, but rather strengthen our commitment to peace, dialogue, and mutual respect,” she said.
