Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of one of their most promising young defenders, with Aden McCarthy completing a transfer to Azerbaijani Premier League side Sabah FK.

The 22-year-old leaves Naturena after what was widely regarded as his breakthrough season in senior football, having established himself as a regular in the Amakhosi backline during the 2024/25 campaign.

McCarthy made 33 appearances across all competitions, a significant return for a player still early in his professional journey.

He also contributed two goals, adding an attacking dimension to his defensive reliability as Chiefs secured a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership and qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.
