The City is running two public participation processes concurrently for Parcels A, B and C in Pinelands and Mowbray: (1) voluntary public engagement to invite comment on the draft concept development plan, and (2) statutory public participation proposing to release land in terms of the Municipal Asset Transfer Regulations.
Community organisations in Pinelands and Mowbray have warned that a proposed mixed-use development at the King David Mowbray precinct could permanently destroy long-standing sporting, recreational and green spaces that they say serve communities across Cape Town.
The Pinelands Ratepayers and Residents Association, King David Mowbray Golf Club and Clyde Pinelands Football Club are calling on residents and the broader public to object to the City of Cape Town’s draft concept development plan before the public comment deadline on July 6.
The City has stressed that no development decision has been taken, no land use change has been approved, and that the process remains at an exploratory, pre-application stage.
The organisations said the strongest sentiment from residents and current users was the fear of losing a deeply rooted community asset.
