A proposed high-density development at Three Anchor Bay, stirring community opposition for the preservation of public recreational space.
More than 300 residents have signed a petition opposing the City of Cape Town's proposed high-density mixed-use development at Three Anchor Bay in Green Point, arguing that the land should remain public recreational space rather than be released for private development.
The proposal relates to Erf 2187 and forms part of the City's plan to unlock what it describes as the long-term socio-economic potential of the underutilised municipal property which is set to be ready by the year 2030.
According to the City, the proposal allows for a maximum development envelope of 117,000m² of new gross building area. The development could include retail and office space, a hotel of up to 325 rooms, as many as 1,145 residential units, community facilities, and a requirement that at least 20% of residential units target the affordable housing market.
The City of Cape Town's Economic Growth Directorate explained that the proposal had extensive pre-statutory public engagement for the project which commenced in February 2025.
