More than a dozen people have been arrested in operations against illegal power hookups in Roma camps in several parts of Greece, police said Tuesday.

Two people were arrested in Pallini, east of Athens, Tuesday where electricity company employees removed some 500 meters of cables used to illegally connect homes with the power grid.

And in the southern Peloponnese region on Monday, nine people were arrested near the town of Kalamata, two people near Argos and one near Corinth.

All faced formal accusations of using electric power without payment.

Police regularly mount such operations, during which arrests for illegal connections to the electricity or water networks are common.
