Mrdula Trikamjee and Dr Thulja Trikamjee.

IT IS NOT every day that you come across someone who quietly shapes a community for a quarter of a century. And yet, that is exactly what Mr Ashwin Trikamjee did.

Twenty-five years is a long time in anyone’s life - but in service, in leadership, and in unwavering commitment to the South African Hindu Maha Sabha, it becomes something far more meaningful. It becomes legacy. Today, we are honouring Ashwin Trikamjee’s legacy at the Maha Sabha on the auspicious occasion of the 114th anniversary of its founding.

What made Ashwin Trikamjee’s leadership stand out was not just how long he served, but how he served. He had this rare ability to balance tradition with the realities of a changing world.

Ashwin understood that preserving religion, culture and heritage did not mean freezing it in time - it meant keeping it alive, relevant, and accessible, especially for younger generations trying to find their footing in a fast-moving society, yet not deviating from scriptural injunctions.
